Will Canada introduce Sharia law?

My Middle Eastern history professor in college used to say that multi-cultural empires do not exist. If they did, the disagreeing cultures would ultimately war against one another. Is the idea of Sharia law in Canada something like that? Or is it another application of a broadly liberal ethic (i.e. I live my life and you live yours)?

The answer may come empirically before it comes philosophically.
